Foster parents needed
Love and compassion are needed for the children of Douglas County. At any given time, this county has temporary legal custody of more than 100 children. These children come from all walks of life, rich or poor. Foster parents bring safety, reliability, and dependability to the lives of children. Foster parents are not paid, but are volunteers who are reimbursed for the everyday care of a child in their home. The state is fully responsible for the cost of having a child in care, and reimburses families for clothing, child-related services and health and safety items. The expenses are reimbursed monthly. To become a foster parent in the state of Georgia you are required to have medical exams, criminal records background check and complete 30 hours of initial training. Drug screen and home safety requirements are needed as well as references. Georgia driver's license and social security card are kept on file. If you are not sure about ongoing foster parenting, their agency can use your services in other ways. If you are interested in fostering or would like to help in other ways, contact Chelsea Howard 770-732-5693 or Cicely Walls at 770-732-5684 with Douglas County DFCS.

Loving Hands Ministry appreciates and accepts all donations that are in good condition. Please be understanding if they have to turn something away. They know what they can and cannot use. Even those who have very little are somewhat picky and want nice things. That is what they strive to have for them to choose from. They are a local donation center that serves Douglas County. They try to help those who qualify for assistance and help with items needed. They can use gently worn clothing, (especially children’s) dishes, any household items, furniture and even vehicles that are in good condition. They do NOT accept TV’s, VCR’s, computers, bikes or exercise equipment. They are located behind the National Guard Armory on Spring Street. They are still seeking toiletry items (motel soaps, etc.) and warm blankets or sleeping bags for the homeless. There is also a need for Bibles. Any translation would be appreciated.
